When did you Join SMG?
March 2019.
Describe your role in a nutshell?
I am responsible for all things people, culture and development related.
What do you enjoy Most about working at SMG?
The variety of projects and things that I can get involved in, meaning that no two days are the same.
What aspects of your role keep you challenged and curious?
From a curiosity perspective, there's always more that can be done - whether this means new initiatives, new training opportunities or basically anything that improves the overall employee experience. This in itself provides its own challenges, because we as a People team are always challenged to "think bigger".
Which SMG value would you say is your favourite and why?
"Stay Foolish" because no two days are the same! When I think back on my time here, so much has changed - not just due to Covid, but also as a business in general.
What piece of advice would you give to someone starting SMG?
Embrace everything that comes your way, be up for an exciting challenge and accelerated development! Ultimately, you're helping shape and grow the business, so jump in with both feet!
How have things changed over the last year?
From a People perspective, we've grown so much! We have new partnerships, brand new teams and so much opportunity for development and growth. From a wellbeing point of view, while this has always been a focus there has been an even greater emphasis on this over the last year, helping our employees to find their balance and cope with the additional stresses of working during lockdown. From a working environment point of view, we have adjusted from being a largely office-based workforce with agile working opportunities to a completely remote one, enacting a hybrid working policy to entrust our employees to work where they feel they are most effective.
